Many Rhode Island school districts announce closures, early dismissals amid extreme heat
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The sweltering heat expected on Thursday will affect the first week of school in Rhode Island.
The Ocean State can see a high of 91 degrees.
The following Providence Public Schools will be closed: Asa Messer Elementary School, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School, George J. West Elementary School, Harry Kizirian Elementary School, Mary E. Fogarty Elementary School, Robert F. Kennedy Elementary School, Vartan Gregorian Elementary School, Veazie Street Elementary School, Webster Avenue Elementary School, Esek Hopkins Middle School, Gilbert Stuart Middle School, Nathan Bishop Middle School, Nathanael Greene Middle School, Roger Williams Middle School, West Broadway Middle School, A-Venture Academy, Classical High School, Hope High School, and Mt. Pleasant High School.
The Blessed Sacrament School and LaSalle Academy will also be closed.
All schools in Pawtucket will be closed.
Some local schools, including William M. Davies, Jr. Career and Technical High School, The Met — East Bay, and The Rhode Island Transition Academy at RWU, will be closed.
Burrillville Public Schools, Central Falls Public Schools, Cranston Public Schools, Coventry Public Schools, East Greenwich Public Schools, East Providence Public Schools, Johnston Public Schools, Scituate Public Schools, Smithfield Public Schools, West Warwick Public Schools, and Woonsocket Public Schools will have early dismissal.
