Car hits RIPTA bus in Johnston

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A car collided with a RIPTA bus on Calumet Avenue and Hartford Avenue Thursday night.

Johnston Police Chief Mark Vieira said that around 9 p.m. a Honda Civic was attempting to turn left onto Calumet Avenue when a BMW X5 overtook and struck the Honda.

The BMW then hit a RIPTA bus that was traveling in the opposite direction head-on on Hartford Avenue.

Vieira said that the drivers of both cars were transported to a local hospital alongside the bus driver and the bus’ only passenger.

He added that there were no serious injuries and the crash is still under investigation.
