Pawtucket woman allegedly stabs, kills mother

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — The Pawtucket Police Department said that a stabbing that occurred late Saturday night resulted in the death of an woman.
Det. Sgt. Christopher LeFort said that Sharita Watkins, 28, was charged with domestic violence – first degree murder.
Watkins called 911 around 10:15 p.m. and told the dispatcher that she had stabbed her mother.
When police arrived at Watkins’ home on Manton Street, they discovered Mary Melendez, 53, suffering from injuries consistent with stab wounds.
LeFort said that Melendez was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
He added that Watkins gave a full confession when she was interviewed by detectives.
She is expected in court on Monday.
This is the second reported stabbing to occur in Rhode Island on Saturday.
