Man expected to survive following officer-involved shooting in Lakeville

LAKEVILLE, Mass (WLNE) — The Plymouth County District Attorney’s office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred this morning in Lakeville.
A Lakeville Police officer was parked in the area of Pickens and Precinct Street when another car pulled up by the officer. A man exited the car and approached the officer pointing what appeared to be a gun. During the confrontation a Massachusetts State Police trooper, commuting home in his personal car, jumped in to assist the Lakeville officer.
The suspect was ultimately shot and transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. He is expected to survive.
A weapon belonging to the man was recovered at the scene but Lakeville Police say it is a possible replica. It is unknown if the man involved had any on-going mental health issues.
According to the MA State Police Association Union President, Patrick McNamara, the trooper involved recently graduated from the academy and is new to the force.
