RIDOT delays lane shift in North Smithfield to Saturday

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said it will shift travel lanes at two locations in North Smithfield as part of the Route 146 Reconstruction Project.

The shifts were originally to be put in place Friday but were delayed due to inclement weather.

The first change will shift both northbound and southbound Route 146 traffic to the right at the Sayles Hill Road intersection.

RIDOT said the shift will create a work zone in the median for the construction a new flyover bridge that will eventually carry Route 146 over Sayles Hill Road.

The other shift on Route 146A approaching Route 146 South will reduce the road from two lanes to one, and shift this lane to the right.

RIDOT is rebuilding the Spring Brook Bridge overpass at this location.

The Route 146 South weigh station will also be closed starting Oct. 3.
