NORTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The Norton Police Department said that residents should be aware of a scam where they are contacted by phone from someone stating they are from an area police department requesting a large amount of cash to bail a family member out of jail.

Deputy Chief Todd Jackson said that anyone who gets a similar call should hang up immediately and contact the police department directly to confirm the accuracy of the call.

Remember that there should be no legitimate reason for someone to call you, requesting you to send them cash or gift cards,” he added. “If you receive a call, and suspect it to be a scam, simply hang up before giving any sum of money or personal information.”
