Firefighter falls through set of stairs in burning Pawtucket home
PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Two firefighters were hurt and seven people were torn from their home after a massive fire in Pawtucket on Monday night.
The call for the fire at the Paisley Street home came in shortly after 5 p.m.
Flames got into the walls and traveled floor to floor, making it difficult for firefighters to knock down.
While the family living in the home got out safely, two firefighters were hurt — one from Pawtucket and one from Providence.
A mayday was transmitted for the Providence firefighter, who fell through a set of stairs.
Officials said he got himself out of the building and was brought to a nearby hospital.
Neither of the firefighters’ injuries were life-threatening.
The Red Cross is assisting five adults and two children who lived at the house.
The windows were knocked out and the home had significant smoke and fire damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
