Mayor Hopkins to move forward with new Budlong Pool

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — The next step in the process of constructing a new Budlong Pool in Cranston now has the green light.

The new pool will be replacing the beloved 22,000 square foot pool originally built in 1940, which was one of the largest in the country.

Mayor Ken Hopkins announced Tuesday that his administration is moving forward into the bidding process for the new pool complex based on designs shown during September’s community forum.
The plans specify the construction of a safe and modern 8,000 square foot pool with a modern-day shape and a zero-depth entrance for kids and seniors.
The size is deemed sufficient to accommodate more than 500 users at a time. It’s being funded with $4 million of ARPA funds and a federal grant of $750,000.
In a statement about the pool’s progress, Mayor Hopkins said, “I am excited for all Cranston families that we will properly modernize and restore this facility with a sound financial investment and an exciting concept for many generations.”
