Charity run on Claiborne Pell Bridge to offer rare view of Narragansett Bay

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The public will be able to cross the Claiborne Pell Bridge with a rare view of Narragansett Bay on Sunday.

The Citizens Pell Bridge Run will start at 7 a.m. with police blocking off roads beginning at 6:30 a.m.

Only registered athletes will be allowed on any part of the bridge during the run.

All proceeds from the run will benefit local non-profits and community organizations.

Commuters in Jamestown and Newport should expect detours and delays.

In Jamestown, East Shore Road will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. between the intersection at Conanicus Avenue and Route 138. Conanicus Avenue will be closed from 6:45 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. from the Jamestown Golf Course to the Route 138 on-ramp to the bridge.

In Newport, Farewell Street will be closed from 7:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. through America’s Cup Avenue.

Van Zandt Avenue at the corner of Farewell will also be closed. Delays in that area are expected to last until 9 a.m.
