Foxborough police hope to charge 3 men connected to Patriots fan’s death

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) — After weeks of investigation, police are now looking to charge three Rhode Island men in connection to an altercation and death of a Patriots fan at Gillette Stadium.

Dale Mooney was pronounced dead on Sept. 17 after an altercation inside the stadium during a Patriots game.

The 53-year-old season ticket holder from New Hampshire was involved in a fight that broke out in the stadium’s 300 section.

Preliminary autopsy reports indicated Mooney died from a medical emergency, not trauma from the fight.

In a statement, Foxborough police said:

“The applications for complaint submitted by the Foxborough Police Department will now be scheduled for a probable-cause hearing before a clerk or assistant clerk in the Wrentham District Court in the coming weeks. Should the clerk find probable cause to issue the charges, the names of the individuals will become public record at that time. The Clerk Magistrate Office of the Wrentham District Court will schedule the date and time of the hearing.”

The development comes after weeks of witness interviews and video collection.

The Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office said Mooney was punched three times in the head before he collapsed.

Police now await a probable cause hearing at Wrentham District Court.

If the clerk finds probable cause to issue the charges, the names of the three men will become public.
