East Providence police search for man accused of cashing fake checks

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Police in East Providence are looking to identify a man accused of cashing fake checks.

The department posted photos on social media Monday of a suspect and a suspect vehicle believed to be connected to an incident at the Citizens Bank on Newport Avenue last month.

Police said a man used someone’s debit card to cash three checks at about 11:40 a.m. on Sept. 25.

The man walked away with almost $3,000 in counterfeit and altered checks.

Police said he then got into a black Honda Accord, which was circling the block, waiting for him.

The department believes the car then headed to Pawtucket.
