Cadet with Rhode Island roots awarded Life Saving Citation in Vermont

NORTHFIELD, VT (WLNE) — During the recent Norwich University Family Weekend, a Cadet from North Providence received the highest award possible for rescuing a mother and daughter from a structure collapse.
According to Major General Mark Anarumo, Norwich University’s President, Cadet Staff Sergeant Jacob Turner, of North Providence was among six Cadets to receive the Live Saving Citation after an incident at the Tunbridge Fair.
Maj. Gen. Anarumo said that while volunteering at the fair in Vermont, six members of the Corps of Cadets witnessed a food vendor’s wooden structure collapse.
Without any hesitation, Anarumo said all six jumped into action, lifting the heavy metal roof of the structure to see if anyone was trapped or injured. A mother was screaming frantically because her young daughter was trapped in the rubble.
The Cadets quickly pulled the child from the rubble and got her immediate medical attention. She was later treated by EMS and was reunied with her mother.
The other Cadets who received the Life Saving Citation include:
Cadet Corporal Mathew Peate, of Keene, New Hampshire
Cadet Staff Sergeant Mathew Czaja, of West Brookfield, Massachusetts
Cadet Corporal Sheamus Finnegan, of Hooksett, New Hampshire
Cadet Sergeant First Class Maggie Lim, of Medford, Massachusetts
