Man accused of firing deadly shot at Mother’s Day cookout to be arraigned

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A man charged in a deadly shooting at a Mother’s Day cookout in Providence is set to be arraigned Tuesday.
The Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office said last week that Luis Sepulveda was indicted on first-degree murder and illegal gun charges.
He is accused of firing a shot that killed 44-year-old Angel Rodriguez around 11 p.m. on May 14 at a family gathering on Manton Avenue.
Police said Rodriguez was celebrating the holiday with his fiancé’s family.
Sepulveda, 51, arrived at the gathering with a friend who did not get along with Rodriguez.
Police said the men argued throughout the evening, and that Sepulveda fired shots on his way out of the party, hitting Rodriguez.
Those at the gathering told police that a group of people were waiting for Sepulveda in a van parked outside, and didn’t know what happened.
Rodriguez later died at Rhode Island Hospital.
Police said Sepulveda has a lengthy criminal record that dates back to the 1990s.
He is set to face a judge in Providence County Superior Court.
