Judge Caprio unveils new courtroom named in his honor
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The former Providence Municipal Courtroom was renamed after well-known Judge Frank Caprio Friday.
Caprio served on the bench for nearly 40 years, and is most well known for his role in the reality show “Caught in Providence.”
Dozens of city leaders and residents packed the Providence police station for a dedication ceremony.
“This is a small token of our appreciation,” Mayor Brett Smiley said.
“No one cares more about our state than Francis Caprio,” Gov. Dan McKee added.
Caprio unveiled the new name for the courtroom after an emotional speech.
“If we persevere, we can all succeed in this country, regardless what side of the bench you’re on,” he said.
Caprio resigned from his position in January.
“It’s not where you start, it’s where you finish,” he said. “Don’t ever give up.”
