Woman arrested for allegedly punching, biting police officer outside Saje Kitchen

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A woman is facing charges after allegedly punching and biting a Providence police officer after a disturbance outside a club on Federal Hill early Sunday.
According to Major David Lapatin with the Providence Police Department, an officer was patrolling on Atwells Avenue at 1:43 a.m., when they heard screaming coming from outside of Saje Kitchen.
When the officer stopped outside the restaurant, they said they saw 27-year-old Taylor Martone screaming and trying to move past the security guard. The officer said Martone was yelling because she had been “disrespected inside of the club.”
As the officer attempted to deescalate the situation, they said Martone continued yelling and blocking patrons from leaving or entering the restaurant. The officer said the security guard was also not cooperative with their efforts.
After being told to leave the area, Martone allegedly punched the officer in the head and continued punching them as the officer tried to get her in handcuffs.
The officer said they were able to get Martone on the ground with help from a bystander, which is when Martone allegedly bit the officer’s right arm, breaking skin and leaving a visible impression.
After Martone was put in handcuffs, the officer said she continued to kick them and it took multiple officers to get her into a police cruiser.
She was later taken to Central Station where she was held in a padded cell due to her behavior. She was treated for minor injuries sustained in the altercation.
The officer was later treated for their injuries at Roger Williams Hospital.
The officer further noted in his report that they observed several license violations at Saje Kitchen that had not been remedied from previous citations from police.
Martone is currently being held for charging.
