Middleborough firefighters battle house fire

MIDDLEBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) — A home in Middleborough is a total loss after a massive fire that happened early Monday morning.

According to Middleborough Fire Chief Owen Thompson, crews were called to a reported structure fire on Deerfield Path at 3:07 a.m.

When responders arrived on the scene, they said they found a two-and-a-half-story home completely engulfed in flames.

To prevent the fire from spreading, Chief Thompson said firefighters made an aggressive attack on the outside of the home.

The one person in the home was able to make it out safely and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The fire was knocked down at approximately 4 a.m. and the home was deemed a total loss. The Red Cross is working with the one occupant of the home.

Firefighters remained on the scene until about 1 p.m. making sure the area was clear of any hazards.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
