CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Julius Mattila scored what proved to be the game-winning goal early in the third period as Boston College claimed a 4-2 win over the Providence College men’s hockey team on Friday night at Conte Forum.

NOTES
– David Cotton gave the Eagles an early lead right off the opening faceoff with his 12th goal of the season just 12 seconds into the game.
– The Friars responded with multiple dangerous looks at the net but Woll made a few sprawling stops to keep BC ahead.
– The Friars broke through at 12:59 on Josh Wilkins’ seventh goal of the season.
– Providence grabbed the lead with 1:54 remaining in the first on Jay O’Brien’s second tally of the season.
– The Friars allowed their fourth shorthanded goal of the season as Michael Kim’s one-timer tied the game at 2-2 at 2:57 of the second period.
– Providence had a golden opportunity with a 5-on-3 advantage for a full two minutes, but two posts from Tyce Thompson and O’Brien and timely goaltending from Woll kept the Friars off the board.
– Julius Mattila gave the Eagles the lead early in the third period with his seventh goal of the season as the teams skated 4-on-4.
– Björkqvist had the best chance to knot things up with under eight minutes to play as he walked in on a 2-on-1 but Woll flashed the left pad.
– Christopher Brown sealed the game with 1:29 remaining after finding the empty net for his third goal of the season.
– Wilkins extended his career-long point streak to 11 games (5-12-17). He leads the Friars in scoring with 24 points overall. The point streak matches the longest streak in the nation this season (Evan Barrett, Penn State).
– Jack Dugan now has a career-long six-game point streak (1-6-7).
– Scott Conway’s five-game goal scoring streak ended on Friday.
– Jay O’Brien extended his point streak to three games (2-1-3) after a four-game hiatus to play for the United State at the 2019 World Junior Championships.
– Providence’s eight-game unbeaten streak came to an end after a 5-0-3 run. The Friars suffered their first loss since Nov. 23 at Denver.
