Repeat offender arrested for drug trafficking in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A repeat offender in New Bedford has been arrested for trafficking crack cocaine, police said Tuesday.

According to Assistant Deputy Chief Scott Carola, 36-year-old Joe Chamberlain, of New Bedford was charged with trafficking crack cocaine in excess of 36 grams after his arrest on October 16.

Officials said that detectives assigned to the New Bedford Police Department’s Organized Crime Bureau conducted an investigation into a cocaine delivery service allegedly being run by Chamberlain out of an apartment on Pleasant Street.

After a search warrant was executed, police said they found over 52 grams of crack cocaine and a digital scale along with packaging materials. Chamberlain was also found to be in possession of over $10,000 in cash.

Police said Chamberlain has previous convictions for narcotics-related charged including possession with intent to distribute a Class A drug from 2016 and cocaine trafficking in 2019.
