Part of Route 37 east in Cranston to close this weekend amid bridge work
CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Drivers are being warned to plan ahead as part of Route 37 in Cranston will close this weekend for bridge work.
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation will replace the bridge carrying Rout 37 east over the Pawtuxet River.
Crews will demolish the old bridge and slide a new one into place.
The department said conventional construction of a new bridge would take significantly longer — up to two years.
During the work, Route 37 eastbound will be completely closed between Interstate 295 and Interstate 95 starting Friday night.
The change will last through the weekend and most of Monday.
Ramps connecting 295, Route 2, and Pontiac Avenue with Route 37 eastbound will also be closed during that time.
The department advised drivers to use other routes and avoid the closed highway.
