RI Board of Elections prepares for Tuesday’s CD1 special election
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Voters will be able to make their voices heard in Tuesday’s election for the 1st Congressional District seat to replace former Rep. David Cicilline.
All polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Rhode Island Board of Elections said it is prepared to count all of the votes.
“We will have mail-in ballot results available tomorrow evening. Prior to that, the polls do close at 8 p.m. We will already start receiving those results,” Miguel J. Nunez, the Deputy Director of Elections told ABC 6 News.
At the same time, the board will get results from early voting in the 19 communities taking part in the CD1 election. North Kingstown and East Greenwich will hold their own special referendums.
Mail-in ballots will be posted after the early voting results are published on the Board of Elections website. Officials said that sometimes there can be transmission issues at a polling location, which can cause a delay in the results being posted.
“The following day, on November eighth, we do have drop-box ballots that will need to be certified and tabulated. We usually add them Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning,” Nunez continued.
Active military members and those out of the country are given seven days from the election to send in their votes which will be added to the election results by Nov. 14.
All results are to be considered unofficial until the election is certified by the Board of Elections.
