Drug bust in Lynn, Massachusetts among one of New England’s largest

BOSTON, Mass. (WNLE) — Federal prosecutors announced one of the “largest single-location drug seizures in New England history” on Monday.

According to U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts, Joshua Levy, more than 220 pounds of suspected drugs, including heart-shaped pills resembling popular Valentine’s Day candies were discovered amongst hundreds of thousands of other counterfeit pills.

Levy said in a press conference that the drugs were found in a home in Lynn, Massachusetts. He said there were children living on the first and second floors of the home while a large-scale drug operation was underway in the basement.

Officials were able to identify Emilio Garcia as the drug operation’s leader. Sebastien Bejin and Deiby Felix are also charged in connection to the organization, which is said to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine.

The investigation into the operation began in July after an overdose death in Salem, Mass., led to the arrest of an alleged drug dealer. In the suspects car, police said they found methamphetamine pills, a loaded pistol and a wallet with Bejin’s driver’s license.

Investigators later learned that Bejin had previously been in contact with the alleged dealer over the phone.

A search warrant was later obtained for the basement of a house on Broadway in Lynn. During the search, officials said they found a room rented by Garcia that was filled with “industrial quantities of controlled substances.”

In that room, investigators discovered tens of thousands of counterfeit Adderall pills believed to contain methamphetamine, hundreds of thousands of counterfeit Percocet pills believed to contain fentanyl, four guns, heat sealers, scales and other materials used in the sale of black-market drugs.

A criminal complaint from the search and arrests reads in part, “In total, investigators seized over 100 kilograms of suspected controlled substances from the room rented to GARCIA in the basement of 363 Broadway. This is believed to be one of the largest single-location seizures of fentanyl and methamphetamine in the history of New England.”

Officials said that approximately 9.2 kilograms of the drugs seized from the basement were pink heart-shaped pills, resembling a popular Valentine’s Day candy, which contained both fentanyl and methamphetamine.
