Stabbing investigation leads to unrelated gun arrest in New Bedford
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Police Department said while officers were investigating a stabbing in the city’s north end, they ended up arresting a man on unrelated gun charges.
According to police, on Tuesday, November 7, at around 9 p.m., officers responded to the area of Collette Street at Ashley Boulevard for reports of a man who had been stabbed.
A man was later found at the scene who sustained non life-threatening stabbing injuries. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to recover, police said.
While investigating the incident, two officers detained a man who tried fleeing the scene. He was identified as 22-year-old Victor Abraham Rodriguez Ortiz, of New Bedford.
Officers said Ortiz was found to be in possession of a loaded Glock handgun. He was arrested and later charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license.
Police said the victim of the stabbing was not forthcoming with information about the incident, but detectives are still investigating.
