Woonsocket City Council president sworn in as mayor after Baldelli-Hunt resignation

WOONSOCKET, Mass. (WLNE) — Woonsocket City Council President Christopher Beauchamp was sworn in as mayor of the city Thursday evening after former Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt resigned.
Beauchamp cited the city’s charter, which states that if the mayor’s office is vacant, the president of the city council is to be sworn in.
“I want to personally thank Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt for her tireless dedication to the city over the last decade,” he said.
Baldelli-Hunt said she resigned due to “health concerns.”
Beauchamp added that he looks forward to working with the rest of the town’s government in his new capacity as mayor.
He was elected as the president of the city council by the rest of the council on Dec. 6, 2022.
