PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Gina Raimondo was sworn in for her second term as Governor of Rhode Island on Tuesday afternoon.

“I’m humbled that you’ve once again placed your trust in me.”

In a warm but windy inauguration ceremony at the State House, the Governor reflected on four years ago when she was first in that very spot.

“Our unemployment rate at that time was the highest in America. Our roads, bridges and schools were crumbling all around us.”

She thanked Rhode Islanders for helping in what she calls the state’s economic comeback, from investing in infrastructure, to job training, and keeping schools warm-safe-dry.

“Let’s commit ourselves to sustaining this comeback until every single Rhode Islander is included. And let’s make the choices that will position our state for success for the long haul.”

The Governor touched on topics like the opioid crisis, harassment in the workplace, and affordable healthcare.

“I’ve seen what we can accomplish together in just four short years, and I know that even more is possible. “

Raimondo also hinted at second-term policies, by demanding stricter gun laws, and saying education should start before kindergarten.

“Let’s show everyone what Rhode Island can do. Above all, we anchor ourselves to hope.”

In addition to Governor Raimondo’s swearing-in, were the state’s other general officials, including Attorney General Peter Neronha, who is replacing Peter Kilmartin.
