Jared Grasso announces resignation as head basketball coach at Bryant University

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — Bryant University said Monday that Jared Grasso resigned as head coach of the men’s basketball team.

Grasso announced his resignation on X, formerly Twitter, and said his decision to resign was difficult, but was best for his family and his mental health.

He said balancing the work of being head coach and raising three children was “extremely challenging.”

“I am excited for my children’s practices, recitals, and Christmas shopping,” he said in the post. “In addition to celebrating winter holidays with my family for the first time in my career.”

Grasso said he grew up with the culture of the game before his time at Bryant University.

Grasso was placed on a leave of absence in September. The specific reason remains unclear.

He was then accused of being responsible for a hit-and-run crash on Oct. 1.

Prosecutors dropped the misdemeanor charge against him last week after North Smithfield police filed to dismiss the case.
