Gabe Amo (D) officially sworn in to House of Representatives
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — After a months-long campaign to replace former Congressman David Cicilline in Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District, Gabe Amo was officially sworn into the House of Representatives Monday night.
Amo, who grew up in Pawtucket, worked for former Gov. Gina Raimondo as Director of Public Engagement and Community Affairs, and also served as the Deputy Director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and Special Assistant to the President for President Joe Biden.
His appointment to congress makes him the first person of color to represent the state of Rhode Island.
When asked about what he plans to do first after his acceptance speech, he told ABC 6, “The first thing is to be a vote to keep the government open.”
Amo has said he will stand to protect Social Security and Medicare, specifically for veterans, and fight pressing issues like gun violence and reproductive rights.
Amo now joins Seth Magaziner, who took office back in January, and represents the 2nd Congressional District of Rhode Island.
