PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Public School District will host its annual School Choice Fair for families on Thursday.

Parents and students will have the opportunity to hear schooling options for rising kindergartners, sixth graders, and ninth graders, as well as learn about the five redesign schools in the district.

“The School Choice Fair is a great opportunity for Providence students and their families to explore the exciting schools and opportunities in our District,” said Superintendent Javier Montañez.

“It’s important to be aware of the different academic and extracurricular choices that each school has to offer, learn about the dynamic five school redesign program, and be informed about which one would be the best fit for them and their educational needs,” he said.

Each school will have a table at the fair with administrators and informational materials.

Students currently in Pre-K, fifth grade, and eighth grade will choose which school they’d prefer to attend next year.

According to the district, as a general rule, 80% of any school’s enrollment is drawn from its immediate neighborhood, while 20% of seats are reserved for non-neighborhood families. Siblings of students previously enrolled receive preference.

The fair will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Providence Career and Technical Academy on Fricker Street.
