Providence man admits to fentanyl trafficking

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — United States Attorney Zachary Cunha said a Providence man admitted that he was in possession of nearly three kilograms of fentanyl pills and fentanyl powder that he intended to deal.

47-year-old Giovanny Toro Gallego pled guilty to a charge of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

Cunha said that an investigation by members of the DEA Drug Task Force revealed that Toro Gallego was a “known drug trafficker.”

A search that was executed of his residence in June found that he was in possession of approximately 2.8 kilograms of fentanyl in the form of pills and powder, two pill presses designed to manufacture pills containing fentanyl, and punch die for marking pills.

Toro Gallego is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 15, 2024.
