Deadly pedestrian crash on Route 24 in Fall River disrupts morning traffic

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — A woman was struck and killed on Route 24 north in Fall River early Friday morning.

Massachusetts State Police said a Ford F-250 driven by a 44-year-old Fall River man struck a woman at about 5:15 a.m. at mile marker 8.

The woman died on scene. Her name was not released.

Police are investigating why the woman was on the highway.

Video obtained by ABC 6 News shows the truck being taken away from the scene.

The section of Route 24 north was closed for several hours as emergency crews investigated.

Message boards were posted on 195 and surrounding routes like Route 79.

Commuters were advised to take a different route as police and fire crews investigated the crash.

Traffic was significantly impacted and drivers were advised to expect delays. All traffic was restored by 9 a.m.

The circumstances of the crash are under investigation.
