SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — South Kingstown police recently arrested two women for allegedly driving drunk.

“We continue to see two frightening trends: drivers who are impaired during the day and those who are far over the legal BAC limit,” said Chief Matthew Moynihan. “We urge people to make better choices so that they do not hurt themselves or others. Designate a driver, stay over, or call a rideshare, but do not get behind the wheel of a car if you have been drinking or using drugs.”

Police said the first arrest happened after a crash around 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Officers responded to a reported crash on Succotash Road, where a driver crossed the center line and hit a car going northbound.

The driver, 46-year-old Sarah Weinrich, allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol. Police said she showed signs of impairment.

Weinrich was arrested for suspected DUI and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Donna O’Keefe. (South Kingstown police)

Police said the second arrest happened Friday night.

Officers said 57-year-old Donna O’Keefe was taken into custody around 9:40 p.m. after she was driving erratically on Route 138.

She allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol after police pulled her over.

Police said she was “unsteady on her feet” and smelled like alcohol.

O’Keefe was taken to the police station where her BAC came back as .246% and .240% — more than three times the legal limit.

She was charged with DUI of liquor, .15 or greater.

Both women will appear in Washington County District Court on Dec. 7.
