94-year-old nursing home resident leaves Kent Hospital as a COVID-19 survivor

A 94-year-old nursing home resident left Kent Hospital as a COVID-19 survivor, spreading hope to healthcare workers and families.

Fannie has been a resident at Riverview Nursing Home in Coventry since 2019.

“She had been known to us for a while because she has some rehab stays, but when she needed somewhere to stay she came here,” one her nurses said.

If nurses didn’t know her before they sure do now. That’s because Fannie was admitted to Kent Hospital on March 28th where she began treatment after testing positive for COVID-19.

Fannie tested negative at Kent Hospital and went back home to Riverview on April 7th.

She completed 14 days of quarantine under the Health Dept. guidelines and now she is thanking the nurses for making it all possible.

“I’m glad I’m alive and I’m sad for the people who died,” Fannie said

The nurses said it has been devastating losing some of their residents, but Fannie represents hope.

“The fact Fannie here at Riverview 94 years old is amazing and encouraging for everyone,” one nurse said. “I hope others see her success and are motivated by it and continue to social distance and stop the spread.”

While Fannie’s family was not there physically, the nurses made sure she was able to stay connected with them.

“We helped her make sure she was able to call her family and her belongings were nearby to make her more comfortable while she was in isolation.”

If you ask Fannie the key to making it through coronavirus, she says she left it to the lord and credits both Kent and Riverview for the care she got.
