PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Starting Friday, Dec. 1, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation will be changing traffic patterns on Interstate 95 north after the Downtown exit and near Providence Place Mall.

Officials say the changes are part of the Providence Viaduct Northbound project to open a new service road to separate traffic on I-95 north from traffic on entrance and exit ramps.

RIDOT said a key feature of the changes will be the relocation of Exit 38, old Exit 23, for Route 146 and State Offices to approximately one mile south of its current location. Officials say this will require commuters to take the exit sooner and be in the right lane as they approach the Atwells Avenue overpass.
