Historic homes on the East Side to be demolished

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Demolition is scheduled Tuesday for three historic houses on Angell Street in Providence.

Neighbors of the three historic homes and city officials like Councilman John Goncalves have opposed the plans, calling on the city to protect the houses.

Goncalves called for a pause on the project to level the homes at 209, 211, and 217 Angell Street.

Those against the plans rallied Monday to stop the demolition of the homes, all over 100 years old.

The city said all three houses are owned by the same entity, but the reason for demolition and future plans for the property is unknown.
