FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) – With a special election looming in the distance, a former mayor of Fall River told ABC6 he is considering throwing his hat back in the ring.
Fall River Attorney Sam Sutter said Friday that he is leaning toward running in the special election to fill the seat currently held by embattled Mayor Jasiel Correia.
Sutter previously served as the city’s mayor from 2014 until 2016, and as District Attorney for Bristol County from 2007 until 2014 he oversaw the high profile murder trial of former Patriots player Aaron Hernandez.
Sutter’s announcement comes after Correia announced Wednesday that he will not be resigning from office amid federal charges, prompting the special recall election in the early part of 2019.
Fall River City Council will meet January 2nd to decide on a date for the recall election. That date could come on March 12th or 19th.
Sutter told ABC6 he expects to have a final decision soon.
