Mount Saint Charles Academy to join New England Preparatory School Athletic Council

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Mount Saint Charles Academy will leave the Rhode Island Interscholastic League and play for the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council starting next year.
Mount said Tuesday that the NEPSAC is an association of independent and faith-based schools in New England.
“I am excited to see what the future holds for Mount as a member of NEPSAC,” Mount’s president, Alan Tenreiro, said in a statement.
“Competing in the league will give us more flexibility for scheduling and the opportunity to field more teams,” he said. “Mount has always been a college prep school, and our participation in a league with other prep schools will mean more opportunities for our Mounties.”
Mount has a long history in athletic achievement, which is reflected in its after school programming.
“Through our athletics programs we teach invaluable lessons about morals, the worth of working in unison, and the importance of each person,” Tenreiro said. “On the field, court, or ice, as in the classroom and in life, our athletes know that hard work pays off in countless ways.”
The 2024-2025 season will determine what leagues are best for Mount’s athletic teams, including its new wrestling program, while allowing teams to compete for a New England championship.
Mount thanked the RIIL and credited its foundation to the history shared with the organization.
ABC 6 News reached out to the RIIL for comment and has not heard back.
