WESTERLY, R.I. (WLNE) — Westerly Police have found the body of a Connecticut woman who went missing Christmas Eve.
Police said 68-year-old Lucia Ritacco was reported missing from her Pawcatuck home after she went Christmas shopping Monday morning.
According to officials, a surfer saw her Jeep parked at the Weekapaug breechway in Westerly Monday night into Tuesday, which prompted efforts to find her.
Police said they found her body after a search of the Winnapaug Pond around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Officers obtained surveillance video that showed a person in the water traveling in a fast moving current towards the pond, which led police to the area.
Her body was located at the shoreline near the end of the breach way.
A cause of death is currently being determined as Westerly Police continue to investigate.
