Man stabbed in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police say a man was hospitalized after he was stabbed Sunday.

According to Major David Lapatin with Providence police, officers responded to Mawney Street at around 11:30 a.m. for a reported stabbing.

When first responder arrived at the scene, they said they found a 49-year-old man standing outside a home who was bleeding from his stomach from a major stab wound.

The victim told police he didn’t have any information about where he was stabbed or what had happened leading up to being stabbed.

Bystanders later told police that the victim had been seen bleeding from his stomach inside Fernandez Liquors on Elmwood Avenue. Police said they later discovered a trail of blood from the liquor store to Mawney Street.

The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
