PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence Mayor Brett Smiley will announce the city’s plans for the holiday season.

It’s already starting to look a lot like Christmas in the capital city, with the snowflakes back on light poles throughout downtown.

The mayor will be joined by “The Grinch” as he prepares for a week’s worth of shows.

Performances of “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical” will begin at the Providence Performing Arts Center on Tuesday. Shows will run until Sunday.

The holiday magic doesn’t end there. The public can see “A Christmas Carol” at Trinity Repertory Company through New Year’s.

“It’s always a good time of year to visit Providence, but I am particularly excited about the many fun and exciting things we are hosting this holiday season,” Smiley said. “Whether you are coming for the tree lighting or to enjoy the world-class plays that we host regularly at PPAC and Trinity, Providence is a standout holiday destination this year. There’s truly something for everyone.”

The Bank Newport City Center and The Providence Rink will start its winter programming on Friday.

The public can come for ice skating from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day until early March 2024.

Ice bumper cars will be available from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends.

People can either bring their own skates or rent a pair on-site.

Providence will also host the “Three Nights of Lights” festival from Friday to Sunday.

It will begin with a tree lighting in front of City Hall with live entertainment on Friday night.

A holiday market, ice sculptures, live performances, and illuminated murals are planned throughout the weekend.
