Cranston man in court Friday morning following arrest for domestic disturbance
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — A Cranston man was in Kent County Court Friday morning, facing five felony charges following an arrest Thursday night where police said they were called to Eddy Street in Cranston following a domestic disturbance between a father and son.
Michael Muniz and his son Elijah Amalfitano were arrested Thursday after they allegedly got into an altercation outside Muniz’s Eddy Street home.
During that altercation, an eyewitness called Cranston Police and said Muniz and his son were in the street arguing with each other, and said they allegedly heard one of the men say they were going to get a gun, and that they “will shoot police.”
Once outside Muniz’s home, police surrounded the home and called for the defendant to exit. After around 30 minutes Muniz exited the home and surrendered to police.
Michael Muniz was brought into the Kent County courtroom in handcuffs surrounded by officers Friday morning. After reading some of the details of the case, prosecutors requested a $10,000 surety bail for Muniz, but a judge bumped that up to $15,000 due to the number of weapons in Muniz’s possession, that he was not allowed to have after a previous conviction of 1st-degree robbery in 1992.
After a search of his second-floor apartment police seized several weapons, including a Mosberg .22 AR-style rifle, Mossberg .22 semi-auto hunting rifle, and a Harrington Richardson arms 6 shot revolver .32 cal, as well as several swords, knives, a hatchet, and ammunition.
Muniz faces five felony weapons charges, his son, Elijah Amalfitano was charged with domestic simple assault but was not in court Friday.
