Unsealed indictment lists 27 gun, drug charges against 26-year-old

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence Grand Jury returned an indictment charging a 26-year-old with 27 gun and drug related charges.

According to the indictment, Neftaly Sanchez, 26, is charged with the following

  • Five counts of assault with a dangerous weapon
  • Two of which carry the Criminal Street Gang Enhancement
  • Five counts of discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence
  • Three counts of felony conspiracy
  • Three counts of possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance
  • Two counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance
  • Two counts of conspiracy to violate Rhode Island’s Uniform Controlled Substances Act
  • Two counts of possessing a large-capacity magazine
  • One count of possessing a stolen firearm
  • One count of possession of one ounce to one kilogram of cocaine
  • One count of firing a weapon from a motor vehicle

The alleged acts occurred in the city of Providence on March 12, and 16 of 2023. A warrant was executed in related to the charges on April 11 of 2023.

Sanchez is scheduled to be arraigned on December 6, in Providence County Superior Court.
