BRISTOL, R.I. (WLNE) — The Bristol Fire Department responded to a large fire on Patricia Ann Drive Wednesday night.

Fire Chief Michael DeNello said that a neighbor called in the fire around 6 p.m. after seeing smoke coming from the home, which had expanded substantially by the time firefighters arrived.

DeNello said that the bulk of the fire was near the front door.

“We were met with heavy fire conditions on the first floor extending into the second,” he said.

DeNello added that there were some challenges in fighting the fire, including the hydrants being far from the home and holes in the floors causing a firefighter to almost slip into the basement, but that the fire was knocked down after about 15 minutes.

There were no reported injuries, and the State Fire Marshal was on scene.

DeNello said the house is uninhabitable for the night, and there are some construction concerns.

He added that he wanted to remind the public, due to the time of year, to not leave indoor holiday lights, such as Christmas trees, lit when no one is home, as they can conduct heat easily.

The Portsmouth and Warren Fire Departments assisted in fighting the fire.
