Wet, Windy Conditions Hit Holiday Travelers

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — It may not be a white Christmas – but the weather outside is still frightful.
Torrential rains and gusty winds are slamming our area – and much of the East Coast – on one of the busiest travel days of the year.
Several travelers at T.F. Green Airport say they experienced delays.
“I wasn’t super worried until I got to the airport and saw all those folks laying around and waiting,” said Avery Sturtevant of Washington, D.C. “And then I checked and started getting alerts on my phone that our flight would be delayed.”
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation says crews have cleared storm drains and are on standby as holiday drivers hit the roads.
“Slow down,” said RIDOT Director Peter Alviti. “Include in your travel plans a little more time to get there. And be a little more cautious.”
But some say the best option is to be a homebody.
“Don’t travel if you don’t have to,” said Pete Jones of Niantic, CT. “Sit at home by the fire. That’s the place to be.”
