WAREHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — The fourth recreational marijuana shop in Massachusetts opened its doors Friday morning in Wareham. Verilife is the first recreational pot shop on the South Shore.
The dispensary, run by PharmaCann, has been selling medical marijuana since early this year.
Now, they’ve expanded their menu to add recreational sales, making it so customers don’t have to drive hours across the state for their pot.
“Probably was my number one hold off from the other dispensaries is location,” said Al Martorana of Stoughton.
A fifth recreational pot shop is opening Saturday in Easthampton. Another, in Fall River, is expected to open early next year.
“We have pre-rolled flowers, we have tinctures, we have concentrates, we have vapes,” said Kate Walden from PharmaCann.
In Wareham, there’s a catch. Customers looking to buy recreational marijuana are not allowed to walk up to the shop or get dropped off. Only those purchasing medical marijuana are allowed to park at Verilife.
Instead, those customers have to park three miles away at Water Wizz, get a ticket, then take a shuttle to the location on Main Street.
At the grand opening Friday, some waited in line for something specific.
“High blood pressure, hypertension for years, and certain strains and flower does help,” said Martorana.
Others just went for fun.
“It’s a historic day, it’s my first day of retirement and I’m buying myself a treat.”
Sue Metro retired from Brown University and decided to stop by to celebrate. She said pot sales in Massachusetts are long overdue.
“It’s been a long time coming. It got legalized two years ago so I think we’ve all been pretty patient,” said Metro.
Verilife is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week.
