Police investigating fatal crash in East Providence
EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The East Providence Police Department said that it is investing a fatal crash that took place in the area of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Crowne Avenue Sunday.
20-year-old Chaz Gagnon of Pawtucket was charged with driving to endanger with death resulting, reckless driving/eluding police, obstructing an officer in execution of duty, and three counts of fugitive from justice.
The department said that officers that responded found a sedan with heavy frontal damage in which Gagnon and a female passenger were both suffering from serious injuries.
Both were transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where the female passenger later died.
Police said that before the crash, an investigation into a suspicious vehicle saw Gagnon give police a fake name and then flee. Police did not pursue the car due to fog.
The incident is still under investigation. Gagnon is in police custody at the hospital in serious condition.
