Increase in business for grocery co-op Urban Greens in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Urban Greens a grocery co-op on the west end of Providence says over the last six weeks they have seen a 130 percent increase in business.
The market’s general manager says since they are not tied into the same distribution chains as the larger retailers, they are more likely to have the items customers need.
Recently, locally caught seafood has been selling out quickly.
This week it was 1,600 oysters from “Walrus and Carpenter Oyster Farms.”
John Santos, General Manager of Urban Greens said, “One bag came from Ninigret Pond. The other bag came from Dutch Harbor. We thought we would have enough oysters to sell through the afternoon. Yeah, we sold out in about an hour.”
Urban Greens is also providing meals for people in need as part of a community program.
