BARRINGTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A utility pole snapped in half in Barrington during Monday’s strong winds and heavy rain.

Barrington police said the intersection of County Road and Middle Highway was closed Monday morning after the pole snapped in half, posing a potential danger to drivers.

Police said detours were posted, but advised drivers to avoid the area.

The pole snapped amid a storm across Southern New England.

Rain and wind began Sunday and continued through Monday morning.
