Fire breaks out inside commercial building in Bristol

BRISTOL, R.I. (WLNE) — A large response was triggered after a fire broke out inside a commercial building in Bristol on Monday.

According to Bristol’s Fire Chief, Michael DeMello, firefighters were called to 120 Broadcommon Rd. for a report of a fire inside the J.J Bidden Cordage Company.

When crews arrived at the scene, they said they were met with a fire inside and people still needing to be evacuated.

None of the people inside sustained major injuries, according to Chief DeMello.

The chief said the building sustained heavy damage to its east side and smoke was lingering inside the building because of its high ceilings.

The workers at the building are not expected to return to work until further assessment of the damage is made.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Bristol Fire Department.
