Newport Children’s Theatre to live stream ‘Kiss Me Kate’ tonight

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE)– The curtain may not rise, but the show will still go on for Newport Children’s Theatre tonight.

The theater group will produce a live-stream version of the classic Cole Porter musical “Kiss Me Kate” on its Youtube page at 7 p.m. this evening.

Originally set to open at the Casino Theatre in Newport tonight, the cast had been in rehearsal since January, artistic director Tara O’Hare Gnolfo said.

The coronavirus pandemic may have kept them off the stage, but the cast continued to work together in online rehearsals. Tonight, they will present a 45 minute streamlined version on the Tony award-winning musical.

For five of the cast members, the show represents the end of 10 years of work with the troupe. As high school seniors, they’ll be bidding farewell to the stage in Newport.

The show will be up for later viewing on the group’s Youtube page, along with more information about cast members.
