Police: Driver identified and charged with murder after intentionally striking pedestrian
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE): A driver has been charged with murder after police say he intentionally struck a pedestrian with his car after the two were involved in an argument.
The driver, Israel Gonzalez, 48, of Providence, was charged with one count of first-degree murder, according to Providence Police Commander Thomas Verdi.
On Sunday afternoon, the victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital after being hit on 132 Harold Street.
A spokesperson for the Police Department said the 40-year-old victim died at the hospital on Monday.
The victim’s identity has not been released.
Gonzalez was taken to district court and arraigned in front of a judge. Gonzalez was held without bail and taken to the ACI.
