PROVIDENCE (WLNE)—  There are hundreds of vulnerable families in Rhode Island that need a helping hand this holiday season. Children’s Friend in Providence is in the middle of their annual drive  to give kids a Christmas they won’t forget. They’ve been collecting toys, books and warm clothing to assist moms and dads as they try to put presents under the tree.

Some 1600 families requested help this year. And as of Thursday morning the agency had gathered enough to fulfill the wish lists of 1400. That means there are still about 200 families that need to be adopted.

Your donations ensure that the little ones have a great holiday and the parents don’t have to sacrifice quality time by picking up extra shifts to pay for all the presents.

“Many of our families are working multiple jobs and so the holidays are really a strain for them,” said Stacey Couto, Vice President of External Affairs for Children’s Friend. “If we can help a little bit and they can have a little more time with their children and have a good holiday and spend it with their kids and not worry about work then we’re thrilled to do that.”

There’s still time to help. You can drop off items at the gift wrap station at the Providence Place Mall or at the agency’s office located at 153 Summer Street in Providence.

In particular, they need small kid’s coats and pre–school toys.
